KATHERINE NORTH CARROLL
President & Principal Designer
Born and raised in Ireland, I have also lived in Switzerland, Illinois, California and New Mexico. I founded Northbrook Design in 1999 in San Francisco after spending the early part of my career in hotel design. Northbrook Design and I are now located in Lake Oswego, OR.
Helping clients define how they want their home to feel is one of my favorite parts of being a designer. It’s not just about how their home looks – it’s about what it’s like to live there. My process starts when I first meet a client and learn their story. I listen carefully and study their living and work spaces for visual cues. Then I start thinking of ideas. I feel extremely fortunate to be able to use my imagination every day in such a productive way.
My years of experience have given me the skills and expertise I require to anticipate the needs of both the client and the project, while simultaneously maintaining a big-picture view of the design direction. I strongly believe that every project is better if the client provides input and feedback. I love collaborating with architects, landscape architects, general contractors and art advisors to deliver the best possible result for the client.
In addition to spending time with my family and friends, I enjoy letterpress printing, running, cooking, and traveling to new places.
ROBERT CARROLL
Business Manager
Jackhammers, tool belts and survey instruments were the tools of my trade for the first 15 years of my construction career. I owned a contracting firm for several years in Northern California before I discovered how useful a computer could be as a tool to streamline construction processes. I have worked in estimating, accounting, project management and field operations, all of which I was able to make more efficient with my on-the-job technology training.
I’ve always been drawn to computers and software. I’m most passionate about staying current on new technology, which makes being creative even easier for Katherine. Developing and improving the methodology that enhances the day-to-day operation of the business is very rewarding for me. It allows us to provide accurate and timely information to our clients and fosters an environment of trust that is the foundation of our working relationships.
When I’m not at work, I love hanging out with my family, biking, hitting the gym, gardening and fishing.
